61F61 Infrared Motion-Activated LED Dome Lamp
Makes On-Off Switch Obsolete for Reefers and More

Grote is First Major Lighting Manufacturer to Offer a Family of Smart Dome Lamps that Promote Higher Productivity and Worker Performance

MADISON, Ind, USA (May 11, 2010) — Grote Industries, a world leader in high-performance LED lighting technology, announced that its new 61F61 Infrared Motion-Activated Dome Lamp is in stock and shipping. Grote introduced the world’s first infrared motion-activated dome lamp to Europe in September of 2008. With the advent of the new 61F61, coupled with other motion-activated dome lamps in the pipeline, Grote is establishing a unique family of automated LED WhiteLight dome lamps.

“Grote is the undisputed leader in interior LED lighting for the refrigerated transport sector,” said Scott Robertson, product manager of forward and interior lighting at Grote Industries. “Our new 61F61 was designed specifically with the challenges of the reefer environment in mind.”

Moisture intrusion is the main cause of lamp failure in refrigerated environments and the humidity level within many reefers hovers at around 100 percent. Grote’s extensive experience with leading refrigerated carriers allowed the company to develop and field test a rugged sealed-sensor design that effectively blocked moisture, even during extensive spray testing.

The same high-humidity environment is the enemy of on-off switches as well, often causing corrosion and ultimately compromising the operation of the switch over time.

“This dome lamp removes the on-off switch from the equation, along with inevitable loose wires, additional parts and installation time,” Robertson said. “Even if the end-user chooses to retain an on-off switch and simply leaves it in the on position, the reduced use will help extend its life.”

The 61F61’s passive infrared motion sensor is calibrated to recognize the human heat signature, so when a person moves within six feet, they activate the lamp. The lamp remains on while activity is detected and stays on for three minutes following the last human motion.

The energy-efficient, 800-lumen 61F61 is designed to extend a vehicle’s battery life by reducing its exposure to power draws during prolonged stops, making it an intelligent choice for those making multiple stops of this type in a day.

Much of the activity surrounding a vehicle delivery occurs outside the trailer and includes staging and stocking processes, as well as paperwork. With the 61F61, there is no power draw unless there is worker movement within the vehicle. The 61F61 Infrared Motion-Activated Dome Lamp significantly reduces the extended power draws associated with manual lighting switches that result in downtime, emergency jumpstarts and ultimately, battery failure.

Shifting loads and falling objects will not activate the motion sensor, and the lamp is engineered to operate in the brutal temperatures of the reefer environment. The 61F61 is made with a durable aluminum housing, a tough, replaceable, acrylic lens and a self-resetting internal cut-off switch to protect against excessive current.

Proper lighting helps increase vehicle and workforce productivity by helping those working in and around vehicles see the work at hand, recognize hazards, reduce ocular strain and discomfort and assume a natural working posture that might not be possible under poor lighting conditions.
