Grote Industries Receives ISO14001 Certification

MADISON, IN (February 26, 2003) — Grote Industries, a leading manufacturer and marketer of vehicle safety system products, has received ISO 14001 certification. This certification demonstrates Grote’s commitment to meeting stringent environmental standards at its facility in Madison, Indiana. Grote is also QS 9000 certified, meaning the company meets supplier quality standards for North American automotive and heavy duty truck manufacturers.
ISO 14001 provides organizations with a framework for managing and continually improving their environmental programs.

“Grote is an environmentally conscious company and pursued certification as a testimony to caring about the quality, health and safety of our employees and customers,” says Jim Braun, Grote executive vice president. “I believe it is imperative for manufacturing organizations such as ours to understand environmental programs and processes and learn how to dispose of environmentally sensitive material. We strive to continually improve our operations while maintaining safety standards.”

As a result of obtaining its ISO 14001 certification, Grote has implemented four new pollution prevention programs and is striving to adopt four more pollution programs each year. ISO mandates only two such programs per year. Grote is now reporting fewer VOCs, (volatile organic compounds), and the company has completely eliminated other pollutants, such as nickel, from its manufacturing plant in Madison, Indiana.

To achieve certification, a core team of approximately 17 Grote employees met on a weekly basis for one year. Grote was also required to complete training courses through ISO. An independent auditor will audit Grote facilities every six months to verify that the company is meeting the required standards to maintain certification.
