Bring Technicians Up to Speed with Grote Know-How Grote Fluorescent Dome Lamps Light the Night for Earp Distribution
Earp Distribution in Kansas City operates 34 tractors and 42 refrigerated trailers to deliver food to McDonald’s®, Boston Market® and Chipotle® restaurants in a five-state region covering Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma and Nebraska. Earp Maintenance Director Carl Fisk, a 25-year trucking industry veteran, specifies Grote’s SuperNova® LEDs, fluorescent dome lamps and Ultra-Blue-Seal® wiring harnesses on all of the fleet’s reefers.
Fisk says he’s always willing to try something new. Long frustrated by the dull light cast by traditional incandescent interior trailer lamps, Fisk was among the first to try Grote’s new fluorescent dome lamp. He was an instant convert, and began spec’ing them in all the fleet’s new trailers in 2001. “We put two in a trailer as a test. The lights were so bright in there, it looked like Fisk says he also believes the fluorescent lamps have improved driver safety. “With an incandescent lamp, you can get your foot caught in a pallet because you can’t see. The Grote fluorescent lamp is so bright, that isn’t a problem.” By installing the Grote fluorescent dome lamps, Earp was able to reduce the total number of lamps per trailer from 13 to six, using less amperage while giving off more light. Maintenance has also decreased, Fisk says. “For the first year and a half, I don’t think I touched any of the fluorescent lamps, which was unbelievable to me,” he says. “I track these things on the computer and my lighting costs on these trailers [with fluorescents] was nothing. I believe the Grote fluorescent lamps have saved us a lot of money.” Carl Fisk, maintenance director for Earp Distribution, is a fan of Grote fluorescent dome lamps. |
