Bring Technicians Up to Speed with Grote Know-How The Importance of Solid Training
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that over the next seven years, the United States will add 3 million new jobs a year, for a total of 167 million jobs by 2010. Unfortunately, forecasters estimate there will be only 157 million workers available to fill those jobs, according to a recent article in Heavy Duty Trucking. This means that we could be facing another labor shortage. While the last labor crunch to hit trucking in the late ’90s had a dramatic impact on fleets’ abilities to attract and retain drivers, the next is sure to be felt equally in the area of maintenance. Many fleets are already struggling to find and keep good technicians. As the labor market shrinks again, talented technicians are sure to be lured to more attractive jobs, and fleets will find themselves faced with hiring less experienced workers. For this reason, it will be critical for fleets to have solid technician training programs in place, to quickly bring their new technicians up-to-speed. The new Grote Know-How program offers several tools to train technicians of all experience levels and turn them into experts on selecting, maintaining and repairing heavy duty vehicle electrical and lighting systems. |
