Water, salt, or dirt in your harness system will create an on-going corrosion problem in your harness. Grote’s UBS (ULTRA-BLUE-SEAL®) harness system is a modular system that has been sealing out corrosion and lowering downtime since 1983. It’s designed around a family of standardized components that plug together to form flexible and complete lighting and wiring systems.

Grote UBS components can be used to create systems for most styles and sizes of trailers including dry vans, tankers, reefers, flat beds, and special-task trailers such as container chassis trailers. Its modular design means that all UBS components provide positive connectivity no matter what the design function and position on the trailer requires. Grote engineers design our lamps specifically to fit our harness plugs that work with our lamps.

Interchangeability Fights Downtime
Grote’s UBS modular design allows its components to be changed without requiring cutting and splicing the harness system. If, for instance, a jumper is damaged, it can be exchanged with a new replacement part without the need for trimming to length, crimping, or soldering.

Male-pin Technology
Traditional terminations (female-pin lamps with male-pin plugs) offer limited protection from moisture and corrosion. Their two mating components are often made from flat, stamped-metal components that are then rolled to form the pin. Over time this technology will eventually weaken and cause an inconsistent termination, allowing corrosion to infiltrate the entire electrical system. Not the Grote UBS design.

The Grote UBS male-pin system combines male-pin lamps with female connectors on the wiring harness for a corrosion-proof and vibration-resistant connection. Male pin plugs also prevent ground shorts, a common wiring system breakdown associated with road-induced vibration. The key components of its male-pin technology are the solid, spun-brass terminals, which are tin-plated for maximum corrosion resistance. This, combined with our patented Grote Double Seal feature, makes the Grote male-pin system the best in the business.

Sealing Out Downtime
At the heart of the Grote UBS system is our patented Grote Double Seal connection feature, which provides twice as much protection from moisture and contaminants than other designs. The Double Seal consists of a molded-in circular ring in the connector, corresponding to a mating ring on the lamp, or another segment in the harness system.

The inner sealing ring covers the terminal area and the outer ring, or dust skirt, seals around the outside area of the lamp plug connection. The Double Seal drastically decreases water intrusion and corrosion, especially when infused with Grote Dielectric Grease, specially designed to further prevent water intrusion.

The Grease Groove design on the male-pin plugs prevents grease from squeezing out of the connection when it is initially closed. Dielectric grease added to female terminals and male terminals to Ultra-Blue Seal® System provides another level of protection against moisture and contaminants. But sometimes grease causes a hydraulic effect when ordinary lamps and plugs are connected, preventing the plug from being fully seated in the lamp, and creating a potential leak path. Grease Grooves allow the sealing compound to disperse around the terminals with the excess sealant escaping into the reservoir, eliminating the hydraulic effect.
